Basic Communication
Introduces the communication process, non-verbal communication, role playing, problem solving and group dynamics; considers a variety of individual and small group communication situations. Prerequisites: RD30 or designated placement test score as shown on current indicator chart; WR115 (may be taken concurrently).
Fundamentals of Public Speaking
Focuses on projects in extemporaneous speaking, emphasizing content, organization, effective delivery, audience motivation, and language use. Prerequisites: RD30 or designated placement test score as shown on current indicator chart; WR121 (may be taken concurrently).
Introduction to Intercultural Communication
Develops ability to communicate in diverse cultural settings and explores the impact cultural differences have on the communication process. Through study of cultural behaviors, belief systems, and values, students will work together to increase their sensitivity and appreciation of cultural differences. Prerequisites: RD30 or designated placement test score as shown on current indicator chart; WR121 (may be taken concurrently).
Interpersonal Communication
Examines the role of interpersonal communication in human relationships. The focus is on a relational view of communication–one that explores how relationships are created, negotiated, maintained and terminated. Prerequisites: RD30 or designated placement test as shown on current indicator chart; WR121 (may be taken concurrently).

Provides work-related experience and studies in selected occupational environments.
Fundamentals of Acting I, II, III
Introduces methods and techniques of acting as an art form. Scene work is included and performance is a part of advanced classes.
Improvisational Theater I, II, III
Acquaints students with improvisation through exercises, theater games, and impromptu scenes.
Theater Rehearsal and Performance
Provides experience in rehearsing and performing plays. Course may be repeated for a maximum of nine (9) credits.
Reader’s Theater
Studies the techniques of oral interpretation as applied to group reading, involving the organization and preparation of reader's theater productions. Stresses creative oral reading, calling forth mental images of characters enacting a scene that exists primarily in the minds of both readers and audience. Emphasis is placed upon preparing and performing in productions with students being provided with the necessary theory, practice, and positive criticism to develop skills needed to be an effective channel of communication between the literature and the listener.
Writing for Theater I, II, III
Introduces the craft of the playwright. Students will maintain playwright journals and engage in workshop-styled writing exercises. Some improvisational techniques for material generation may be incorporated. Dramatic structure, creating theater events, and the elements of space, place, character, and action will be addressed. Prerequisite: WR115 (may be taken concurrently) or permission of instructor.

Presents selected topics of study in theater arts including theater for the deaf, communication through drama, children’s theater, and directing.
