Seeks to enhance students’ understanding of military science, preparing them to pursue a military career or to pursue study in SOU’s ROTC program. Provides students the opportunity to learn basic outdoor skills such as rock climbing, rappelling, ropes course and rifle/pistol marksmanship while simultaneously engaging in team building activities.

Studies the constitutional and legal basis for the total army, its key roles and functions as an armed service, the basic organization and areas of responsibility of army staff, and the key capabilities of army combat forces.

Provides students the opportunity to learn basic land navigation skills using the military grid reference system while enhancing their abilities to read and understand all maps for personal and recreational use.

Using the army leadership model, draws parallels between direct, organizational and strategic leadership in both civilian and military applications. Time and personnel management, organization, and leadership counseling are stressed during these blocks of instruction.

Covers military skill sets of moving, communicating, and surviving in a field environment. Basic tactics, terrain analysis, route planning and movement formations / techniques are stressed.
