As a student receiving counseling services you have the
following rights:
To examine public records to confirm the various
credentials held by the staff;
Be free from being the object of discrimination on the basis
of age, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other unlawful category while
receiving services;
Be assured of privacy and confidentiality while receiving
services as defined by rule and law. However, there are exceptions to confidentiality;
When suspected child abuse or elder abuse is occurring;
When there is imminent danger to others or self such as threats of homicide or threats of
suicide;
Sharing information concerning case consultation or supervision; and,
Reporting information required in court proceedings, or other relevant
agencies/departments.
As a student, you have the responsibility to:
Ensure that you are not receiving personal
counseling by another counselor unless prior arrangements have been made;
Arrive to your appointments on time;
Follow through with agreed upon goals; and,
Inform the administration of changes of demographic/personal information.
