Academic advising is provided by counselors for students who are undecided in their major fields of study or who are in the Oregon Transfer Degree program (AA). Academic advising is provided by the faculty in program areas. Academic advisors will answer questions about college and about particular educational objectives, help with program planning and scheduling classes to meet academic goals, answer questions on transferring to other colleges and provide the assistance needed to contact the transfer college. Advisors also will monitor students' progress and provide help when needed. Every full-time student is assigned a faculty advisor or counselor. New students are assigned advisors at the time of their placement tests. Returning students will keep the same advisor assigned to them during the prior term unless there has been a change in major. Career counseling and planning Because career concerns occur across the life span, RCC is dedicated to providing resources to assist students and community members in identifying, comparing and selecting careers for today's workers. Classroom based and on-line learning, individual counseling and self-paced modules guide students through interest and values assessment as well as economic and employment research for informed decision making. Substance abuse referrals regarding alcohol or drug treatment agencies are urged to contact the RCC Counseling Department, 471-3502, for assistance and referrals. Crisis service also is available on a 24-hour basis through Help Line at 479-HELP or 779-4357. Other resources include weekly narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous campus meetings as well as community care programs listed under "Alcoholism Treatment" and Drug Abuse Information and Treatment" in the Yellow Pages of the local phone directory. The Associated Student Government of Rogue Community College (ASGRCC) Wellness Program encourages students to seek life styles which enable them to achieve their highest potential of well-being. More information is available by calling the ASGRCC Board of commissioners at 956-7033 or 956-7034. |
