||Student government leaders at Rogue Community College will present the second annual Zombiefest on May 31 at Redwood Campus (RWC).
Organized by the college’s Associated Student Government, this free event takes place from 4-10 p.m. The public is invited to participate. The campus is located at 3345 Redwood Hwy., Grants Pass.
Registration for Zombiefest 2013is located on the campus’ athletic field. Participants under age 18 must have a signed consent form and under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Makeup will be provided for anyone who wishes to participate as a zombie.
“For the day, we turn the Redwood Campus into a zombie apocalypse obstacle course. Participants must navigate the course, retrieve an antidote and avoid contact with the zombies,” said Bob Floyd, a student government officer. “Participants who come into contact with zombies are considered infected and those that navigate the entire course untouched are survivors.”
Volunteers are needed to be zombies and also to help maintain the course perimeter, patrol the parts of campus that are vacant, and to help with parking and maintaining parking lot security.
Last year’s Zombiefest drew some 250 participants, 75 of whom were zombies. This year RWC student government is partnering with student government at Riverside Campus in Medford to create a larger event. Bussing from RVC to RWC is being organized.
“We’re put this free event on for the sole purpose of bringing our students and community together for an evening of fun,” said Floyd. “We have also extended an invitation to the Associated Students of 15 Oregon Community Colleges that make up the Oregon Community College Students Association. “
Animal House Café will be selling food and live entertainment will be provided by In Transit and Oregonized, two local bands made up of RCC students. Plans call for having a sticker and t-shirt vendor selling souvenirs.
